Planning for improvisation
The original intention of this post was to talk about why so many clients left things to the last moment (this week was full of those moments), and why as planners we should fight this behavior. But while looking for more background to do it, I found this entry in Wikipedia that change my mind.
Then I remembered that a couple of years ago, while I was still in college, I attended to a conference of an impro theatre group (something like the guys in Who`s line is it anyway do).
One of the things that I found more interesting was that they need to do a lot of planning and a lot of rehearsal in order to be able of improvise in front of people. They really need to be prepared to any situation that comes along. And it`s funny, but until know I haven`t quite understand that a good planning job must take notice of any possible scenario that presents in the future, and that includes last minute petitions. So, that is another skill that I need to work on and something I must begin to do in my office, because it`s hard to survive to another week like this last one.
